LIFX Colour BR30 (Nightvision Edition)

Wi-Fi

The LIFX Colour BR30 (Nightvision Edition) puts infrared LEDs into a reflector-shaped bulb. The infrared is invisible to you but not to a security camera, so a dark room stops being a grainy grey smudge on the recording and becomes something you can actually read.

Because it is a BR30, it goes where a downlight or a recessed ceiling can already is. That usually means it is pointing down into the middle of a room, which is exactly where you want the infrared to fall.

What works in Apple Home

  • Turn the light on and off, and set brightness, colour and white temperature.
  • Group it into rooms and zones alongside the rest of your lighting.
  • Use it in scenes and automations, and control it with Siri.

The infrared turns itself on when the room goes dark. There is no control for it in the Home app.

Connectivity

LIFX bulbs join your Wi-Fi network directly. There is no bridge to buy, no hub to power and no spare Ethernet port to find, which is the main practical difference between LIFX and bridge-based systems such as Philips Hue.

Before you buy

Check that your ceiling cans take a BR30 and that they are rated for an enclosed LED. If your downlights are GU10, this is the wrong shape.

If no camera watches the room, the plain LIFX Colour 1100lm BR30 does the same lighting job for less.
