LG Indoor Cam Plug-in (Apple Home Collection)

The LG Indoor Cam Plug-in is part of the Apple Home Collection. LG makes it and Apple sells it, at apple.com/uk/store, in the Apple Store app and in Apple Store locations. Apple’s UK price starts at £179.95, in Essence White. It is the cheapest of the four LG cameras.

You set it up with a single tap of an iPhone, and Apple says there is “no additional app to download and no separate account to create”. The pairing uses NFC and needs an iPhone running the latest software.

The privacy tilt

This is what sets it apart. When you check in on the house from the Home app, the camera tilts up and down by itself to adjust the view. When the first member of the household comes home, it tilts back down and stops monitoring. You can also tilt it by hand, or from the Home app.

LG describes the tilt and the physical controls as “a visible and intuitive way to control monitoring when it is not needed”.

What it does in Apple Home

LG gives it a 160° field of view, the widest of the four, to take in more of a room in one frame.

Apple says every camera in the collection records at up to 2.5K, recognises people, familiar faces, pets, vehicles and packages, and keeps recording to built-in storage if the Wi-Fi goes down. LG’s US specification for this model, though, lists people and animal detection but has no vehicle detection row. Every Home Collection device also supports Thread, which Apple says helps it stay connected when Wi-Fi drops, and each one updates its own network details if you change your Wi-Fi.

You need a home hub

Plan on a home hub. The two companies word it differently:

  • LG: “Use of the new IoT products requires an Apple home hub, like HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K or Apple HomeView.”
  • Apple: “Additional features vary by accessory and require a compatible home hub such as Apple HomeView, HomePod or Apple TV.”

Either way, the camera features (recording, recognition and video history) depend on one. Apple describes the cameras as a way to monitor your home “when using a home hub”. The current hubs are Apple HomeView, HomePod mini 2, HomePod (2nd generation) and Apple TV 4K (4th generation).

Recording needs iCloud+

The camera supports HomeKit Secure Video, so recordings go to your iCloud+ plan. There is no separate camera subscription. Apple says footage is processed on your home hub or in Private Cloud Compute, then stored encrypted in iCloud for 10 days. The video does not count against your iCloud storage.

The plan sets how many cameras can record:

iCloud+ plan (UK)PriceCameras
50GB£0.99 a month1
200GB£2.99 a monthUp to 5
2TB£8.99 a monthUnlimited
6TB£26.99 a monthUnlimited
12TB£54.99 a monthUnlimited

Apple’s newer video features, such as summaries of what happened and search by description, need an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad, an eligible iCloud+ plan and a hub on the latest software. Apple says they work on “a limited number of cameras” depending on the plan, and gives no numbers.

When it arrives in the UK

LG says indoor cameras will be on sale in the UK from December 2026. Apple says the Home Collection starts in December, with “select accessories” following in early 2027, and has not given a day.

Specifications

Power, box contents and the UK part number come from Apple’s UK store page. The other values come from LG’s US page for the US model, because LG has no UK product page yet, and the UK model may differ.

  • Power (UK): USB-C; the box has an adapter and a USB-C cable. Apple does not state the adapter’s plug type.

  • UK part number: HSN72B/A

  • Video: 2.5K, up to 30 fps

  • Field of view: 160°

  • Privacy mode: motorised tilt

  • Audio: two-way talk

  • Sound detection: glass breaking, smoke or CO alarm, baby crying, dog barking, cat meowing, listed by LG as ThinQ App Only

  • Storage: 32GB built in

  • Cable length (US model): 4 ft 11 in (1.5 m)

  • Wireless: dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Thread, Bluetooth LE 5.3, NFC

  • Operating temperature: 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F)

  • Mounting: wall or ceiling

  • LG model number (US): TWMC1W25W (Essence White)

Other apps

You do not need LG ThinQ to set up or use the camera. Apple says setup and use need no other app or account.

One feature is the exception. On the US model, LG lists sound detection as “ThinQ App Only”: it works in LG’s app, not in the Home app. LG says its US and Canadian range works with the ThinQ app, but it does not say whether ThinQ supports the UK models, so it is not known whether UK owners will get sound detection at all.

More cameras in the collection: the LG Floodlight Cam, the LG Outdoor Cam Plug-in and the LG Video Doorbell Wired. Every HomeKit camera in the directory is on the cameras page.
